Advantages to learn a second language – adults over children

What a load of crap! That must be your first reflex when you see this title. That’s normal because children do have so many advantages in language learning over us that people always wish to start to live again when it comes to foreign language learning. However, we as adults have something special too that can be used to learn a second language and that children don’t have or don’t have as much.

First, the comprehension faculty that the adults have accumulated from their experience in the past years of their lives can not be compared by that of children. When things are understood, they tend to be remembered easily. When things can be related to what happened in your life, it would be easier for you to remember them as well.

Second, adults are more self-disciplined. Children is more of interest-or curiosity-oriented. If they don’t feel being attracted to the thing they will not make any effort to learn them. Adults, however, can force themselves to sit at a desk even they want to go out for some fun because they know they have to do it.

Third, due to the second, adults can learn foreign language faster in time. Although children can accumulate their language skills more naturally as they grow, adults can put their other aptitudes into the process so that it can be sped up.

The main point is that people need no excuses for not learning languages well. You just need a plan that could take you to the fast track.
